    Astronaut Joe Engle passed away on July 10, 2024 at the age of 91.

    He was the commander of two Space Shuttle missions including STS-2 in 1981, the program's second orbital flight. He also flew two flights in the Shuttle program's 1977 Approach and Landing Tests. Engle was one of twelve pilots who flew the North American X-15, an experimental spaceplane jointly operated by the Air Force and NASA.

    Cheryl passed away on July 1, 2024 at the age 79. She retired from NASA in 2011 after a 30-year career at MSC/JSC.

    Bill passed away on June 22, 2024 at the age of 83. He retired from NASA after a 27-year career at MSC/JSC.

    Dale passed away in June 2024. He retired from NASA after a 29-year career at MSC/JSC.

    Glenn passed away on June 14, 2024 at the age of 81. He worked at NASA from 1962 to 1972.

    Kel passed away on June 13, 2024 at the age of 88. He retired from NASA after a 20-year career at MSC/JSC.

    John Bruce Williamson, 83, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on June 6, 2024, in Pearland, Texas

    John died on June 3, 2024 at the age of 87.

    John, a MIT graduate, began working at the Manned Spacecraft Center in the Flight Operations Directorate almost from its inception in the early 1960’s until 1972 when he left following the post-Apollo RIF.

    Norman Henry Chaffee III passed away peacefully at his home on May 24th, 2024 at the age of 86.  After his retirement, Norm became the cornerstone of the NASA Alumni League - JSC Chapter and served as Director, Secretary, Vice-President, President and Senior Advisor. 

    Memorial Tribute to Norm:

    • Saturday, August 17, 2024 (Norm's 87th birthday)
    • 12-2 pm
    • JSC/Giruth Discovery Ballroom
