Mr. Wayne Hale will be joining us remotely for our September First Thursday meeting on 9/5.
The challenges that NASA and Boeing have faced in bringing the Starliner to fruition have been front and center in the media for several years. Soon after the much-anticipated launch of the first crewed mission, additional problems arose. After months of testing, analysis, and discussion, NASA chose NOT to bring our astronauts back to Earth on the Boeing spacecraft.
Did NASA make the right decision? How are such decisions made?
As a former top-level leader at NASA, Mr. Hale will bring his unique perspectives to this discussion. During his 32 years at NASA, Wayne served as a Space Shuttle flight controller (15 flights), Flight Director (40 flights), Launch Integration Manager (at KSC), Deputy Program Manager and Program Manager for the Space Shuttle Program. He also served as the Deputy Associate Administrator of Strategic Partnerships for Space Operations at Headquarters. In this role, Wayne was a principle architect of the Commercial Crew Program -- the Program which gave "wings" to the Starliner.
PLEASE NOTE: We will NOT meet in the Gilruth Lone Star Room. This meeting will ONLY be via ZOOM.
