Hayley Spears is currently a Vehicle Subsystem Engineer for Orion, with a focus on Software Safety. She began her career in aerospace in 2021, when she became a Safety Console Operator in the ISS Mission Evaluation Room. In 2023 joined the Multipurpose Crewed Vehicle Program – better known as Orion -- in Safety and Mission Assurance.
In addition to her duties in the Orion Program, Hayley is a regional coordinator for Industry Simulation Education, a STEM-focused non-profit organization that organizes and runs high school aerospace engineering competitions throughout the US and Canada. For 25 years, high school students have been learning about what it’s really like to work at an aerospace engineering company by competing in space design competitions at JSC. Ms. Spears stands on the shoulders of NAL member Norm Chaffee, who spearheaded these competitions at JSC for many years. In her talk, she will discuss how the competition has grown, how you can help out, and the impact that the competition has had on the next generation of aerospace professionals such as herself.
Join fellow alumni at the 1st Thursday luncheon. The luncheon is at 12 noon at Luby's, on 20001 Gulf Freeway feeder road, across the parking lot from Hobby Lobby.
After the presentation, enjoy the "cool" fall weather and head over to the Bluebonnet Pavilion for a much-needed KOTM (Keg of the Month)!
