Mr. Royce Renfrew is a Flight Director currently assigned to the Artemis Program as the Lunar Surface operations lead. In this role, he leads the operations teams working in the EVA and Human Mobility Program (EHP), which includes the lunar surface suits, the Lunar Transfer Vehicle, and a pressurized rover which is being manufactured by JAXA. He is also the Moon2Mars/Mission Design and Utilization/Surface Operations Lead.
Royce started his career at JSC in 1997 as an ISS Robotics instructor, and was certified as a flight controller in both ROBO and as an ODIN, which is the Command and Data Handling Group. He was selected as a Flight Director in 2008, choosing Tungsten as the symbol for his flight control team. He has served as the lead flight director for numerous ISS increments, and has also served as assistant to the chief for ISS, and as acting deputy chief flight director. Royce holds a BS in Computer Science, a BA in History, and Texas Secondary Teaching Certificates in Math, History, and Computer Science - all from Trinity University.
