JSC COVID policy/guidance for fully vaccinated employees

22 May 2021 7:26 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)
  • JSC Team,

On Friday, May 14, you received an email from Deputy Associate Administrator Melanie Saunders titled, “Updated Guidance on Face Masks and Social Distancing.” Melanie’s memo details new guidance for fully vaccinated federal employees, fully vaccinated onsite contractors, and fully vaccinated visitors to federal facilities.

The updated policy states that, effective immediately:

    • If you are fully vaccinated AND at least two weeks past your final dose, you no longer are required to wear a face mask or physically distance on NASA property.
    • If you are not fully vaccinated AND at least two weeks past your final dose, continue to wear a mask and physically distance on NASA property.

As Melanie mentioned in her memo, the updated policy means we are relying on our employees’ honor and personal responsibility as to vaccination status. We also are relying on employees to manage this change respectfully and allow the decisions of our teammates to be implemented with dignity.

We will have an opportunity to discuss this and more, and answer your questions, at our next center town hall at 2 p.m. June 9.

JSC and the WSTF remain in Stage 2 of NASA’s Framework for Return to Onsite Work, and are operating in a maximum telework mode, with capacity limited to 25 percent occupancy for permanent onsite employees at both sites in Houston and New Mexico.  Please continue to telework unless your supervisor notifies you otherwise.

Our JSC family is our greatest asset, and the health and safety of our workforce is our top priority. JSC’s Pandemic Incident Response Group (PIRG) is tracking a decrease in COVID-19 cases in the community and readily available vaccine. The PIRG is working to update the center’s COVID-19 safety guidance to remain consistent with the new agency guidance and plan to share the latest with you in a Roundup Special that will be disseminated Monday afternoon. Websites will be updated to reflect the new policy followed by signage updates.

Continue to follow all center guidance and remain vigilant against the spread of COVID-19 at home and at work. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends vaccination as a safe and effective way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. If you have anysymptoms of illness, do not come onsite. If you are not vaccinated, you must continue to wear a mask and maintain six feet physical distance from others.

Everyone must be diligent in their commitment to safety during this transition. NASA’s continued success depends on each of us maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and workforce. If you have any questions, please discuss them with your supervisor.

Thank you to everyone for your continued dedication to our missions.  We are persevering together.

Vanessa
